About M.Sc.
Course : |
It is
now accepted that along with the teaching of
conventional courses of pure sciences , the
graduates must get training in technology oriented
and interdisciplinary subjects. Shivaji University
in its thirties has undertaken such a venture and
as the beginning of a new era, a postgraduate M.Sc.
course in Agrochemicals and Pest Management which
has been introduced from June 1993 in the School
of Applied Sciences.In addition to this, the
University has als0 started M.Phil., Ph.D.courses
under the said subject in Agrochemicals and Pest
management.

Duration: |
The M.Sc.Course will be two years duration of four
semesters. It comprises of sixteen theory papers,
eight courses on practicals and field
experience/factory experience and survey
work/project work/tour etc.

Eligibility
For Admission to M.Sc. Course : |
Admission to the course is open only to the
candidates possessing B.Sc.Degree with Chemistry,
Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Agriculture, Plant
protection or Bio-Chemistry as the principal
subject. However, one must be chemistry and one
must be Botany or Microbiology out of three
subjects as principal and subsidiary subjects.
Candidates securing at least 50% marks at degree
level are only eligible.

Fees : |
As
the course will be run on a self supporting basis,
a course fee of Rs.11, 975/-(Eleven thousand nine
hundred seventy five only) per year is charged as
tuition fee. Fees paid are refundable with
deductions per university rules for
self-supporting courses.

Number of candidates to be admitted to the course
at M.Sc. It shall be 25 only. [Open: 50%;
Sc: 13%; ST: 7%; VJA: 3%; NTB: 2.5%; NTC: 3.5%; NT

Selection
Procedure: |
All
eligible applicants will be required to appear at
their own cost for an entrance examination
consisting of (a) written test and (b) personal
interview.

Entrance Examination: |
Written Test :
Based
on scientific background B.Sc. syllabi enclosed in
the prospectus based on Chemistry, Botany,
Zoology, Plant Protection, Microbiology,
Biochemistry and Agriculture.
Interview :
Personal interview will be held to observe :
Merit List based on score points will be
displayed.
Nature of the Entrance Test :
here will be a question paper with 75 question of
2 marks each.

Agrochemicals:
Organochlorine pesticides like Endosulfan, BHC;
Organophosphorus pesticides like Monocrotophoa,
Ethophan; Carbamate pesticides:Carbaryl;
Pyrethroids:Cypermethrin.
2.
Natural products & Alkaloids and growth
promoters : Indole-Acetic Acid, Nicotine and
its analogues, Atropine, Terpenoids, Citral,
Camphor and a -Terpeniol.
3.Vitamins, proteins and Nucleic Acids:
Vitamin A & C, Types of proteins and their
structure, DNA & RNA.
4.
Bacterial diseases like Angular Leaf Spot of
Cotton & bangadi disease of potato, Fungal
diseases like downey mildew of bajara and Grain
smut of jowar.
5. Medicinal and Aromatic
plants: Santalum album (Sandal wood),Ross
sap.(Roses) Vetivaria zizynoides, Centella
asiatica.

Teaching
Programme: |
There shall be 4
theory lectures per week for each paper.
Practical shall be of 3 hours duration for
three days a week. Projects/term
papers/Apprenticeship/tours/work
experience-Either to be completed during spare
hours. All expenses are to be borne by the
candidate himself/herself . However, normal
laboratory, workshop and available library
facilities may be provided by the University.

Seminar:-
One seminar per student is compulsory in
semester-I & II and III & IV respectively,
carrying 10 marks each. Internal marks will be
assigned by a committee of three teachers.
Project:-
Project is compulsory in Semesters III &
IV.The internal marks will be assigned by a
committee of three on successful conduct of a
seminar on the project topic. The project work
will be assessed at the end of Semester-IV for
40 marks.
Industrial Training:-
Apprenticeship work /work in research
labs./Industry is compulsory and will done
during vacations only.The internal marks will
be given to the training report Industrial
tour is compulsory in sem.IV.
Theory Examination:-
There will be four papers of 100 marks each,
semester.
Practical Examination
: There will be practical of 100 marks for
each semester.
