Welcome to our portal; we are delighted to have you here. Shivaji University was established in 1962 and named in honor of the founder of the Maratha Empire. It is a premier state university located in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Inaugurated by former President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the university was primarily founded to meet the higher educational needs of the South Maharashtra region. The university features a large, lush green campus spread across 853 acres, rich in biodiversity and remarkably self-sufficient in water due to extensive rainwater harvesting. Today the number of affiliated college has gone up to 297 and students strength nearly 2,50,000 with 34 postgraduate Departments on the campus. Now, it is a NAAC ‘A++” accredited University with CGPA 3.52. The UGC has granted it as the ‘Category-I’ University. Shivaji University, Kolhapur, secured the 45th rank in the State Public Universities category. As per Q.S. World University Ranking-2025 of Asia, Shivaji University 187th in the South Asian rankings. Rooted in the rich legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj-which symbolizes courage, visionary leadership, and a strong moral foundation guided by its sacred Sanskrit motto, "Dnyanamevamrutam" (Knowledge is the elixir of life). This reflects the institution's profound belief that education is a timeless and immortalizing force—one that acts as the ultimate catalyst for enlightenment, rural emancipation, and the continuous upliftment of society.
  
The ultimate strategy recognizes that institutional success relies on three paramount areas: Students’ Success, Research Impact, and Commitment to our Communities, all while seamlessly aligning with the national agendas of AatmaNirbhar Bharat and Vision Viksit Bharat@2047. To maximize student success and future ready employability, which acts as a powerful catalyst for community stability and macroeconomic progress, the university will introduce flexible vertical and horizontal academic mobility, allowing students to seamlessly transition from learners to earners while exploring diverse disciplines. This academic flexibility will be supported by a robust campus entrepreneurial ecosystem featuring a dedicated Technology Transfer Cell and local industry partnerships to accelerate startup creation, boost the number of active entrepreneurs, and construct a self-sustaining engine for regional economic growth. A core component of this economic drive involves the university taking the lead in developing advanced, value-added agro-products and modernizing local Geographical Indication (GI) tagged goods, directly capitalizing on the Kolhapur region's massive agricultural output of sugarcane, turmeric, and strawberries. By incubating young innovators' ideas at the university level and assisting them in establishing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) tailored to the local fabric, the institution will empower its youth toward self-employability and self-reliance. This model will be enhanced by implementing Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programs (AEDP), which integrates structured workplace training directly into the academic curriculum to provide students with invaluable, real-world industry exposure. By blending classroom theory with hands-on professional experience, this initiative ensures that graduates possess the exact practical skills and competencies demanded by the modern job market, significantly accelerating their transition from learners to employable earners.  

To elevate its research impact and excel across international benchmarks like NIRF, QS, and THE Impact Rankings, Shivaji University will adopt an expert-led mentor model, anchor specialized Centers of Excellence for interdisciplinary breakthroughs, and integrate Professors of Practice to bridge theory with industrial execution. This rapid growth will be funded through active alumni networks and strategic resource mobilization, building a self sustaining financial framework fueled by tech transfers, consultancies, and internal revenue to eliminate external grant dependency. Simultaneously, the university will drive inclusive community development and boost the regional Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by establishing localized engagement hubs, active school connect programs, and deep outreach initiatives that bring higher learning to economically and socially deprived classes. Finally, by integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems, promoting women-led national development initiatives, and weaving technological innovations into regional agro and heritage tourism, Shivaji University will transform from an isolated academic tower into a vital, globally recognized engine for structural inclusivity, regional upliftment, and civic pride.
