Indradhanushya: 2009-10
It is indeed a great pleasure for the Organizers of Indradhanushya-2009 to present this report of the Seventh State –Level Inter University Cultural competitions Indradhanushya -2009 The Indradhanushya youth festival was started with the support and patronage of His Excellency the Governor of Maharashtra.
Apart from providing formal education in various academic disciplines, an important objective of any university would be to ensure that the students develop a multi-faceted, kaleidoscope personality. Extracurricular activities such as sports and cultural activates provide the requisite platform for such overall development. It is with this vision, the idea of organizing an Inter University Cultural Youth festival was conceived by Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra. Such Youth festival was conceived being organized at National level. However, the performance of Universities of Maharashtra in such gatherings was quite dismal. Having a Youth Festival at the state Level would have given the much-0needed boost to the cultural Scenario in the universities and colleges, which would subsequently be mirrored in their performance at regional and national levels. With the whole-hearted support of Hon’ble Chancellor and his office, the Inter-University Cultural Youth Festival “Indradhanushya” was launched in2003. Since then, there has been no looking back, and Indradhanushya has been scaling new heights of excellence year after year. For the last five years, the festival has provided an excellent opportunity to the university students of Maharashtra to showcase their talent. Many talented youngsters, who came into limelight through these competitions, have blossomed into successful professional artists. Though the face of Indradhanushya is Cultural competitions, it is aimed at serving a much broader objective. Art has always been a very effe3ctive tool for mass awareness. Artistic expression creates an everlasting and deep impact on the human mind, which cannot be achieved merely by passing information or education. Harnessing the power of art for sensitizing the student community about current social and national issues is also an important objective of Indradhanushya.
- The specific objectives of Indradhanushya are:
- To provide a common platform to the young and budding artists of various universities in Maharashtra to express their talent in the cultural field. Indradhanushya Youth Festival should become an ideal launching pad for the deserving artists, for their entry into the world of professionalism.
- Through the medium of performing and fine arts, a sense of patriotism and social belonging be nurtured into the young minds. The Cewntr5al theme of Indradhanushya has been decided as “Save Girl Child”.
|
- To provide a scope to the universities to develop basic infrastrure for supporting cultural activities. Every year, the responsibility of organizing this mega event would be shouldered by a different university, thereby creating and improving the requisite amenities for the students.
- In this era of growing impact of westernization over Indian culture, Indradhnushya should patronize and popularize the rich cultural heritage of our own country.

29th Inter – University West Zone Youth Festival – 26th to 30 December, 2013:
Inter University Youth Festival (UNIFEST) is organized annually by the Association of Indian Universities since 1985 with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in all the four zones of India. The Ministry of youth affairs is instrumental in bringing about the cultural, emotional and national integration through the process of cultural exchange amongst the Students from diverse regions and backgrounds.
The ministry also plays a medium of inculcating a spirit of unity, fraternity, peace and leadership qualities in the younger generation.
Such youth festivals have brought to the forefront a number of youth artists at the regional, national and even international levels. A large number of youths from nationwide Universities participate in the UNIFEST, which plays a significant role in promoting in our youth, a pride for Indian culture and an awareness of national identity. Shivaji University is always in the forefront in conducting sports and cultural events owing to the dynamic leadership. We are delighted in having created a milestone by hosting the West Zone Inter University Youth Festival in 2013. This witnessed participation from 22 Universities. This has brought together the students community and promoted mutual understanding, appreciation of language, tradition and culture of different linguistic regions of India and characterized the symbol of India – “UNITY IN DIVERSITY”.
