University-Industry Interaction Center (UIIC)
Shivaji University, Kolhapur
 

The University-Industry Interaction Center (UIIC) aims to foster a robust partnership between the university and industry for mutual benefit. UIIC offers a range of services such as Research and Development Projects, Consultancy Services, Manpower Training, and Chemical Analysis. It actively seeks collaborations with industrial organizations to address shared challenges through faculty members from various Post-Graduate Departments on campus. The center is dedicated to facilitating meaningful engagements that leverage academic expertise to drive innovation and practical solutions in partnership with industry.
 
 
ACTIVITIES DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-24
 
The departments at Shivaji University, Kolhapur boast faculties with expertise spanning various fields, including energy conversion and storage, food processing and preservation, quality and safety management, jaggery manufacture, nano-composite design for energy, environmental, and bio-sensing applications, anti-bacterial agents for paints, photochemical investigations, plant tissue culture, phytoremediation, solid waste management, sericulture, data analysis, statistical analysis, and artificial intelligence. This expertise is leveraged through consultancy and joint research projects with approximately twenty industries. Moreover, the university actively engages in industrial management and employee training. There is also a strong emphasis on raising awareness about Intellectual Property Rights and assisting industries in acquiring IPs. 
 
 
Following are the different activities organized under UIIC, Shivaji University in the academic year of 2023-2024.
 
1.    A guest lecture on ‘Skills for Employability and Business Establishment’ on 27th May, 2023: 

Chief Guest: Dr. Sachin Bhilare (Director and CEO, Fluorochem Pvt. Ltd. Pune)
Outcomes: This lecture started with the academic and entrepreneurial experience of Dr. Bhilare, which was very motivating and inspirational to all participants. In this lecture, different aspects such as how to solve problems within the company after selection, how to work hard, how to get career chances, and how to choose the company and job opportunities, etc. were deliberated by the speaker. Also, some emerging questions like how to establish own business. what are the challenges occurring during business establishment? and how to tackle such problems. etc. were raised and interactively discussed during the lecture.

2.  The panel discussion on “University-Industry Linkages: Employability & Entrepreneurship Development” on 12th June, 2023:
Chief Guest: Hon’ble Dr. Uday Nirgudkar (Director Independent-NHPC, Govt. of India)
Outcomes: The said activity provided the platform for knowing the industries' requirements as well as expectations from the University in terms of grooming students, framing curricula, employability skills, on-the-job training (internship/apprenticeship), research/field projects in industries, and entrepreneurship developments. Some renowned industrial experts as well as university representatives participated in this panel discussion, who interactively suggested various aspects of industry-academia works and their mutual benefits for strengthening the linkages between University and Industrial domains.

3.    “74th National Foundry Day Celebration” on 22nd August, 2023:
Chief Guest: Mr. Prafulla Wankhede (Keynote Speaker, Industrial Expert)
Outcomes: This event was used to bring together families of the Foundry fraternity and academicians to celebrate the said Foundry Day. During the said event, various aspects of collaborative work were discussed.

4.    Guest Lecture on “University-Industry Conclave and NEP 2020” on 31st August, 2023:

Chief Guest: Dr. Chetan Narake, Director, Kolhapur GOKUL Dairy Ltd., Kolhapur
Outcomes: The said lecture promoted the awareness and importance of university-industry partnership among the stakeholders by the NEP- 2020. Also, the speaker has encouraged universities and industries to explore new ways of collaborating, including research partnerships, internships, and joint projects, to strengthen the bridge between academia and industry.

5.    Startup Sutra lecture Series Lecture on "Registering a Startup" on 03rd October 2023:
Chief Guest: Dr. Arvind Chinchure (Ex CEO, Deshpande Startups, Hubali)
Outcomes: The said activity has created awareness regarding the startup establishment as well as the registration process for startups.
 
 
 
6.    Five-Day GIAN Workshop on “Advanced Functional Materials and Green Energy Strategies” on 16th to 20th October 2023:
Chief Guest: Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Kamat (Eminent Scientist, University of Notre Dame, USA)
Outcomes: This workshop has enhanced the capability of the participants to identify, control, and remove various obstacles they are coming across during their research in the clean energy field. In addition, it helped to build confidence amongst the participants in the application of training in the energy sector.

7.    Startup sutra lecture series on  “Skill Development and NEP-2020” on 23rd December 2023:
Expert: Dr. Suhas Deshmukh (Director, National Council for Vocational Education and Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, New Delhi)
Outcomes: Participants gained a thorough understanding of how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 influences skill development and entrepreneurship. Expert speakers provided practical insights on aligning educational curricula with industry demands, enhancing participants' readiness for the job market. The series fostered discussions on innovative teaching methods and encouraged collaboration between academia and industry, promoting a comprehensive approach to skill enhancement and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among attendees.

8.    “Innovation, entrepreneurship, and startups exhibition” on the occasion of National Science Day on 27th February 2024:
Chief Guest: Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. D. T. Shirke Sir
Outcomes: This exhibition featured a range of projects focused on sustainable development, including creating goods from waste, using foundry sand for eco-friendly bricks, and developing low-cost methods for nutritious food production and drug synthesis with nanomaterials. Attendees from the university and nearby schools engaged in discussions and networking, fostering collaboration among students, researchers, and new entrepreneurs. The event highlighted innovative solutions to environmental challenges and inspired participants to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, reinforcing the significance of innovation in addressing societal issues.

9.    Ideathon Competition on 02nd March 2024:

Chief Guest: Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. D. T. Shirke Sir

Outcomes: It successfully showcased over 65 innovative ideas from young minds, addressing critical topics such as the Food and Health Sector, Agriculture, Environment and Sustainability, and Innovations in Engineering and Technology. This platform allowed participants to clearly articulate problem statements and propose innovative solutions, fostering a deep dive into entrepreneurial development. The competition not only highlighted the creativity and ingenuity of the participants but also provided them with valuable feedback from industry experts. As a result, many participants gained enhanced problem-solving skills, practical insights into developing their ideas further and increased motivation to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

10.    EDP Awareness Induction Program - Phase I on 21st to 22nd March 2024:

Key Speaker: Ms. Rutuja Sabane (Founder, Arth Business Consultancy, Goa)

Outcomes: This program successfully engaged diverse young stakeholders from various disciplines. Keynote speaker Ms. Rutuja Sabane's thought-provoking talks on entrepreneurship development sparked engaging discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of entrepreneurial principles. Highlights of the event included interactive sessions that encouraged collaboration, innovative thinking, and practical application of entrepreneurial concepts. Participants left with enhanced knowledge, increased motivation, and actionable insights to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

Entrepreneurship Development Induction Program on 28th March 2024:
Key Speaker: Ms. Rutuja Sabane (Founder, Arth Business Consultancy, Goa)
Outcomes: Attendees gained valuable insights into the fundamentals of starting and managing a business, including creativity, business planning, and funding strategies. The program's interactive sessions provided experience in developing entrepreneurial skills. Feedback from participants highlighted increased confidence in their ability to launch and grow their ventures, with many expressing a clear vision and actionable plans for their entrepreneurial journeys. Overall, the program effectively motivated and equipped attendees to transition from aspiring entrepreneurs to active participants in the business world.

11.    Guest Lecture on “Awareness Workshop on Patent to Entrepreneurship Awareness” on 30th March 2024:

Expert Trainer: Ms. Rutuja Sabane (Founder, Arth Business Consultancy, Goa)
Outcomes: Participants gained a deep understanding of the patent filing process and the essential role of intellectual property rights in safeguarding their innovations. The informative sessions and interactive workshops taught attendees practical skills for navigating patent law and developing commercialization strategies. Networking opportunities facilitated valuable connections with industry experts, entrepreneurs, and potential investors. As a result, attendees left the workshop with actionable plans to transform their patented ideas into successful businesses, and a renewed enthusiasm for leveraging their academic innovations in the entrepreneurial landscape.
