Jains have rich ancient heritage and they are valuably gifted with the principles of Jain religion, the implementation of it has imparted a unique identity to Jains not only in India but abroad. Jains have contributed in all spheres of life. Jain Community is mostly populated in the jurisdiction of Shivaji University, Kolhapur which consisted mainly three districts namely Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and adjoining states. Bhagwan Mahaveer Chair is established in Shivaji University on April 2004. It has been purly research oriented centre to probe deep into the insights provided by academicians; Jain religion, Jain philosophy, Jain lifestyle, art and architecture of Jain temples and the contribution of Jains in different fields. The centre has prospered due to generosity of donors and social support. The tone of the centre is purly on academic one. Centre is running Post Graduate level courses, has organized research activities like seminars, workshop, lecture series, guest lectures and has to  its credit the publication of books and proceedings of  the seminars. It is advantageous for Bhagwan Mahaveer  Chair to have Lakshmisen Math and Bahubali Vidyapeeth  geographically very closer as it have Anekant Shodhapeeth with rich library and Math library of  Jain literature. Prof. Padmaja Patil is the Co-ordinator of the Chair since 2008.
