Census Data Research Workstation
The Initiative and Origin

 

Census Data Research Workstation (CDRW) has been established at the Department of Statistics, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, in association with the Directorate of Census Operations (DCOs), Maharashtra which
is an Office under the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORG&CCI), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

 

        

♦   This is an initiative of the Office of Registrar General & Census Commissioner,India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

♦   ORG & CCI has 35 offices all over India. Besides the Head Office at New Delhi and the Language Division at Kolkata, 33 offices are located in States/UT and are known as Directorate of Census
    Operations (DCOs). The office is responsible for conduction of decennial population census in India under the Census Act, 1948

♦   Census data is the only authenticated source that provides both macro and micro level data for the entire country, enabling its use and analysis by the government, academicians, and researchers.

♦   The Directorate has proposed to establish a dedicated research workstations in the Universities/Institutions in Maharashtra to provide access to anonymized census microdata for students,
     researchers in a protected environment to promote the research.

♦   Shivaji University, Kolhapur has accepted this proposal and established a workstation in the Department of Statistics from University funds.
