About Shivaji University

 

Shivaji University, established in 1962 and named after the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was inaugurated on November 18, 1962, by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. 
The university was founded with the primary objective of meeting the regional educational needs of South Maharashtra. Its jurisdiction spans three districts: Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara, serving over 250,000 
students across 298 affiliated colleges and institutes, alongside 50 on-campus departments and research centers offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The university has earned recognition 
for its research excellence in diverse fields such as Science and Technology, Humanities, Commerce and Management, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Among its accolades, Shivaji University boasts an A++ grade 
with a CGPA of 3.52 from the NAAC, ranks in the 151-200 band in the overall university category and 51-100 among public state universities according to NIRF, and holds positions in the 621-640 band in the 
overall Asia rankings and 187th in Southern Asia, as per the QS rankings.
