Mission

  • Support communities enhance their well-being and enable them to create social, economic and environmental conditions in which they can build future for themselves particularly for marginalized women and youth.
  • Recognize and strengthen people’s role to conserve nature by using traditional wisdom and enrich our lives.
  • Act as bridge between University and Society by effectively communicating University knowledge to the community and communicating community needs to the University.
 

Centre for Community Development was established in April 2000.  It offers skill development and Community development programs.  This centre is one of the extension activities of the University that facilitates bridge between University and Society.

Our Skill development program includes 28 Certificate courses of one year and six months duration as well as training programs of less than six months duration. All the courses are tailor-made and customized as per needs of the society.  These courses impart multiple skills those are supporting employment in private sector as well as mini and small scale entrepreneurship.  Course curricula are designed by academic and professional experts and practical based with innovative evaluation system. Courses run in collaboration with NGOs, charitable trust and educational institutes from three districts VIZ Kolhapur, Sangali, Satara under University jurisdiction.  List of courses and organizing institutes is attached herewith.

As far as the general representation is concerned nearly 50% participants are girls. Most of the students come from the rural areas of South Maharashtra and belong to downtrodden communities of the society. The average ratio of completion of Courses - is 98%.

Community Development Programs are based on social and environmental issues.  It includes

  1. Workshops : Soft Skills, Creative Writing, Entrepreneurship etc
  2. Community Development Projects: Every Thursday we organize training on “Garbage Decomposition and Kitchen Gardening”
  3. In-house Certificate Courses: Community Based Natural Resource Management, Community Initiatives in Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, Science Communication.

Infrastructure

Training hall, Computers with internet facility, Printer, Xerox and scanner

Staff: One program staff supported by administrative staff such as junior clerk, daily wage clerk, peon and sweeper.
