| About the University: |
Shivaji University, established in 1962, is named after the founder of the Maratha Empire Chhatrapati Shivaji. It was inaugurated on 18th November, 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. One
of the major objectives behind foundation of this University was to cater to the regional needs of southern Maharashtra. The jurisdiction of the University is spread over three districts viz. Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara
with student strength of about 300000, studying in 293 affiliated colleges, recognized institutes, and 34 university departments. The University has signed number of MoUs with various research institutions of
national and international repute. University has started innovative programmes in AIML, Nano Science & Technology, Social work and Rural Studies. The University efforts towards excellence are being recognized
by the substantial grants received from funding agencies like UGC, DST, DBT, PM-USHA etc. The university has been accredited with A++ Grade by NAAC with CPGA 3.52. |

| About the Department: |
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1982. It has been supported by Department of Science & Technology through its DST-FIST program, and UGC through its SAP program. The Department
offers M.Sc. and Ph. D programmes. It has received grants under Innovative Program Scheme of UGC to initiate M.Sc. (Applied Statistics and Informatics) program since academic year 2013-14. Alumni of the
Department are presently working in all over India and abroad in various sectors. The departmental and the central library have a fairly rich collection of books and journals in various diversified areas. The Department
has a well-equipped computer laboratory with 100+ PCs, and SYSTAT, SAS, MATLAB, MINITAB, STATISTICA and SPSS Software. The Department has excellent research infrastructure and facilities. The thrust
research areas of the department are Statistical Modeling and Inference, Statistical Process Control and Optimization.
