Barr. Balasaheb Khardekar Knowledge Resource Centre has a spacious reading hall facility in two storied building with Wi-Fi facility and purified drinking water along with modern furniture. On ground floor, it has seating capacity of 400 students and on First floor it has seating capacity of 400 students (Total 800 students). The access to reading room is available to students and faculty registered as a member of Barr. Balasaheb Khardekar Knowledge Resource Centre. All PG students, M. Phil./ Ph.D. research students and the students registered for Diploma and bachelor’s degree (for a duration of 6 months and more than 6 months) are given BBKKRC membership.

External 160 students who are appearing for MPSC/ UPSC and similar other competitive examinations like banking etc., NET / SET, CA / CS / CWA are also provided reading room facility on their merit basis after providing necessary required documents. The membership is given strictly for 6 month’s duration viz. from 1st October to 31st March and 1st April to   30th September of every year (two batches). Library fee of Rs. 878/- is charged for the duration of 6 months with an annual increase of 10 % every year.

Reading room remains open from 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight.  For female students, it is open from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm on every day. The students are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the reading hall and BBKKRC, failing to do so, BBKKRC membership is cancelled on permanent basis. For access to reading room, Membership Identity Card is essential without which access may be denied.

► Study Center (Aeroplane Building)

As per the guidelines of UGC and State Government, Shivaji University Study Centre was established to provide reading facilities to undergraduate students of affiliated colleges in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara districts and Post-Graduate students in the University Departments. The Study Centre is situated on University Campus in a separate Aero plane shaped building and was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of the then, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. A. G. Pawar in the year 1972. The centre presently has 13648 books as on 27th October 2023 in its collection and subscribes to 6 magazines and 6 daily newspapers. The seating capacity of the Centre is 200 students.

The study centre is open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 midnight on all the working days, Sundays and Holidays.

For the membership of study centre, students of affiliated colleges in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara districts need to submit the prescribed application form to be filled in by the students and duly signed by the College Principal with current year fee receipt and one photograph.

Fee of Rs. 257/- per year per student is charged for the U.G. / P.G. students of affiliated and they can avail the facility by producing Identity Card issued to them by the study Centre of Shivaji University. Books and other reading materials available need to be consulted within center’s premises and material issued in the study centre for reference is required to be submitted on that day. Admission is not given for irregular (Gap) and female students.

Main reading hall and Study Centre is managed by students of Appsaheb Pawer Vidyarthi Bhavan under ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’ and ‘Work on Demand Scheme’.

 

► Terrace Reading Hall (B.B.K.K.R.C. Building Terrace)

Terrace reading hall with a seating Capacity of 100 is available on terrace of old library building for male students only. It is made available in case of non- availability of seats at main reading hall due to occupancy of all seats. It is made available from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm on working days of BBKKRC and the students are required to become the member of BBKKRC by following official procedures. 

Apart from above reading halls, in the reference section 75 seats, in archival section 60 seats are made available for reading and for consulting the reference / archival material available in these sections from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm working timings.
