From the Desk of Head

The Department of Statistics was established in year 1982. Presently, it runs 2 masters programs, namely M. Sc. (Statistics) and M. Sc. (Applied Statistics and Informatics). The demand ratio for both these programs since last few years is about 1:15. We also have the Ph. D. program.

High quality teaching-learning, rigorous curricula, well equipped laboratories, and the state-of-the-art research have been remained the strengths of the Department.

The Department had organized the 8th National Conference of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics in 1986 and since then followed the tradition of organizing such academic events regularly. Numerous renowned statisticians from India as well as from abroad have visited the Department from time to time.

Statistical Modeling, statistical Inference, Statistical Process Control and Optimization have remained the major research areas of the Department. The faculty members have successfully completed various research projects sponsored by funding agencies such as UGC, DST, CSIR, and NBHM. They have research collaborations with researchers in India as well as aboard. More than 40 scholars got their Ph D degrees from this Department.

The Department has been supported by UGC and DST under UGC-SAP and DST-FIST schemes.

We have a strong alumni network. Our alumni are spread all over India as well as abroad.

Success rates in SET, NET, and other subject-related examinations for the students and alumni of the Department are quite attractive.

Since 2000, the Department organizes various outreach activities in association with Shivaji University Statistics Teachers’ Association, for strengthening the awareness of Statistics among the under graduate students. The activities include written quiz, oral quiz, and personality development camps. Every year, more than 3000 students participate in these activities.
