Department of Microbiology was established in 2005. M.Sc. Ist year syllabus is common as per horizontal mobility concept. Department has introduced new subject; bioinformatics for M.Sc. II year students from June, 2008. In February, 2011 department has shifted in its own building having 2500 Sq.ft. area. Due to increase in number of applications for M.Sc. admissions prompted us to start new M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Microbiology course from June, 2016. In order to fulfill the infrastructural demand of this new course, university authorities have started extension of our existing building from March, 2019. Department has well established infrastructure facilities for teaching and research, which was supported by Shivaji University as well as other funding agencies. Since the inception of the department, our faculty members and research students have produced more than 150 international quality publications in highly reputed journals. Department students are also getting very good success in NET, SET, GATE and ILETS examinations. Our students are getting very good placements in multinational companies, research institutes, universities/colleges, and health department of Government of Maharashtra, etc. Few of our students have set up their own pharmaceutical company also. Students and faculty members of our department are also actively involved in social activities such as tree plantation, Rankala lake clean movement, etc.
