The Department of Library and Information Science, Shivaji University, Kolhapur is one of the renowned Department of Library and Information Science in the Maharashtra state. The department was established on 22 nd July, 1964. It was started with a diploma course in Library and Information Science in the year 1964 then it has come to a long way of upgrading the diploma into BLISc in the year 1972. The MLISc programme was started in the year 1985. The department offers Ph. D. program from 1990 onwards. The curriculums of BLISc and MLISc programmes are revised as per the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. The department was honoured by the University as the ‘Best Department’ in the campus during the foundation day of the University on 18 th November 2022. Recently, the department has received second rank among all the academic departments in the ‘Administrative Excellence Campaign-2023’ of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
