Shivaji University has established the Department of Commerce and Management in 1990. It is an important academic department of the university which has national and international repute in business studies and especially in the thrust areas like accounting, finance, banking, entrepreneurship, rural resources management.
The department has been divided into four sections:
1. Main Academic Department-
- Extending higher education in commerce and management (business studies) in the form of teaching-learning-evaluation process for academic programmes such as Master of Commerce (M. Com.) and Master of Computer Application (M. C. A.).
- Inculcating guidance to research scholars for M. Phil. and Ph. D. in various subjects like Accountancy, Business Economics, Business Management, Commerce and Computer Application under the Faculty of Commerce.
- Conducting research projects funded by various agencies.
- Conducting seminars, conferences, workshops etc. for disseminating knowledge.
- Conducting various extension activities useful for industry in particular and society at large
2. M. B. A. Unit-

3. IDBI Late Shri. R. N. Godbole Chair-
Late Shri. R. N. Godbole Chair in Financial Management and Banking Research has been established in the year 2000. Then The United Western Bank Ltd. has extended corpus fund of Rs. 45 lakhs and the university invested Rs.5 lakhs.
The Chair has organized National level workshops, seminars and also published books on contemporary issues in banking.
The Late Shri. R. N. Godbole Memorial Lecture is organised on 6th December every year on important area of banking. The eminent bankers like Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Dr. Bhalchandra Munagekar, Dr. Bhalchandaran, Dr. Y. S. P. Thorat, Dr. Mrs. Usha Thorat, Mr. Joshi, Dr. Mujumdar have delivered the speeches on the occasion of this memorial lecture series.
On 6th and 7th December 2013, National Seminar was organized on 'Financial Inclusion: A Gateway of Inclusive Development' by the convener Dr. Shrikrishna Mahajan who is looking after this chair as Chair Professor.
4. Bank of India Chair-
Bank of India Chair in Rural Banking has been established in the year 2004 Bank of India has contributed the corpus fund of Rs. 40 lakhs.
The Chair has organized National level workshops, seminars and also published books on contemporary issues in banking.
