Department of Library and Information Science

The Department of library and Information Science is one of the oldest departments in the campus which was established on 22nd July, 1964. This Department was formally inaugurated by Former Hon. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Appasaheb Pawar in April, 1965. After the establishment of the department, initially, the diploma course in Library & Information Science was started from academic year 1964-65. Further, in the academic year 1972-73, this course was upgraded to Bachelor of Library & Information Science. The Master of Library & Information Science programme was started from the academic year 1985-86. The department also has to its credit M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes from academic year 2006-07 and 1990-91 respectively.
At present the department has ten faculty members inclusive of one Professor, two Assistant Professors and seven contributory teachers. They are specialized in different areas like Management of Libraries and Information Centers, Knowledge Organization, Information & Communication Technology, Research methods and Statistical Techniques, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, Digital Library, and Information Literacy etc.
            The Department offers four programmes i.e. B.Lib.I.Sc, M.Lib.I.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph. D. The intake capacity of B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. is 40 and 20 respectively.   The syllabus of B.Lib.I.Sc and M.Lib.I.Sc. programmes is revised as per CBCS pattern and implemented from academic year 2018-19 onwards. The department is furnished with adequate infrastructural facilities.
