Programme Name: Master of Rural Studies (M.R.S.)
1. About Programme :
Masters of Rural Studies program is a post-graduate degree program initiated in the academic year 2013-14, dedicated to addressing the transformation of rural areas into agriculturally productive zones and enhancing the health and nutrition of their communities. Drawing on principles from Economics, Statistics, Environment, Human Resources, Management, and Rural Development, this interdisciplinary field of study aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of rural development. As per the National Education Policy of 2020 (NEP-2020), the program curriculum encompasses a multi-disciplinary approach, providing students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to rural development. The coursework integrates hands-on field experiences to expose students to the realities of rural life, inspiring them to contribute to rural development through careers in entrepreneurship, research, policy-making, teaching, and as practitioners in organizations and institutions engaged in the rural area transformation process.
2. Admission
Eligibility Criteria:
Any Graduate with a minimum of 50% for Open category and 45 % for reserved category.
Entrance Details:
There is No Entrance Exam for Admission. The admission will be given on Bachelor’s Degree level performance.

Duration of Course
The duration of the course is TWO years, divided into Four semesters.

Fees & Intake:
Rs. 10816 /- Per Year for Open Category (instalment facility available)
Rs. 955 /- Per Year for SC/ ST Category
(Border area student’s scheme is eligible for this programme).
Online Application Fee: ₹300/-
3. Career Opportunities :
- To become an Agripreneurship or Copreneurship.
- Work with NGOs or to form an NGO.
- Jobs in Microcredit, NABARD and RBI etc.
- As a project officer, and project coordinator in various government projects.
- Working in agro-based industries.
4. Programme Objectives:
- To create entrepreneurs for rural transformation.
- To identify various problems and suggest solutions for rural development.
- To prepare students for planning and implementation of rural development programmes.
- To strengthen the capacity of stakeholders in policy analysis through teaching and research.
- To develop the personality and character of the students.
