About SAIF

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is providing facilities of sophisticated analytical instruments to researchers through its Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facilities (SAIF) Programme. SAIF at Shivaji University is established to provide analytical facility to scientific community using different sophisticated analytical equipment. The establishment of the centre at Shivaji University was sponsored by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India. This facility is open for internal as well as external researchers from academia, research laboratories and industries. The facility actively caters to the research needs of the scientists throughout country.

Objectives
• Carry out analysis of samples received from academic and research institutions, industries, and other organizations.
• Provide instrumental facilities for scientists in the region to carry out measurements for research.
• Train technicians for operation and maintenance of sophisticated instruments.
• Organize short-term courses/workshops on the application of various spectroscopic and analytical techniques for students, teachers and personnel from industries.
• Carry out suitable sponsored research projects

Administration

The day-to-day functioning of the SAIF is overseen by the Coordinator, SAIF, who is a faculty member of the Institute. The Facilities Management Committee (FMC) oversees and guides the activities of the SAIF. The FMC also examines the deployment of staff and equipment from time to time with a view to enhance productivity and efficiency, and to avoid duplication. It approves and forwards progress report of SAIF to DST. It also approves induction of equipment from other sources that are to be operated under the control of SAIF.
