National Seminar on “Changing Paradigm of National Security” was organized
jointly by Nehru Studies Centre and Political Science Department, Shivaji
University on 12th and 13th October 2011. In the Seminar Professor Shrikant
Paranjape, while delivering Key-Note Address said that many alternative
concepts of security are emerging after the end of the cold war. These
concepts include human security and comprehensive security. Dr. Paranjape
further noted that concept of national security has assumed wider dimensions
and has become very complicated. In many nations, ethnic nationalism has
emerged and ethnic groups are demanding right to self-determination. These
internal challenges have exposed the limitations of military-oriented
traditional concept of national security. Professor Paranjape works in the
Department at Defense and strategic Studies, University of Pune. The inaugural
session was presided over by Professor Ashok Choualkar. He said that Indian
government needs to adopt a broader policy at national security. Professor
Vasanti Rasam welcomed the participants and gave introduction of the Seminars.
Shri. Shashikant Kamble compeered the inaugural session and Mrs. Kalpana Dixit
gave vote of thanks.

S.Y. Surendra Kumar, Professor Vijay Khare, Shri. Madhav Datar gave lead
lectures in the two days seminar on the sub themes like terrorism and changing
concept of national security, Importance of social security measures human
rights and national security, Human rights and national security, Global
poverty and national security, and international trade and national security.
Around 30 Research papers were presented in the Seminar. More than 200
participants attended the Seminar.
