Shivaji University paid homage to the ‘Mahatma’ on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti

Every year Shivaji University & Center of Gandhian Studies organizes Gandhi Jayanti. This year on 2nd October 2011 Shivaji University in association with Centre for Gandhian Studies organized Gandhi Jayanti program. The day was also observed as “International Non-Violence Day” to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s Contribution to peace & Non-Violence.

At the outset homage was paid to Mahatma Gandhi. Hon Vice Chancellor Prof. N. J. Pawar garlanded the photo of Mahatma. He was followed by all the officers of the University, teachers, students & the guest of honor Prof. J. R. Dabhole & Senior Freedom fighter Shri. Dattaji Shinde.
The program began with welcome address by Dr. Bharati Patil, Coordinator, Center for Gandhian Studies, All the dignitaries on the Dias were welcomed by a bouquet. Shri. Dattaji Shinde was felicitated by Hon. Vice Chancellor, on his 90th birthday.

Since 2nd October is observed as an ‘International day of nonviolence & peace’ a pledge was collectively taken on the occasion. Dr. Bharati Patil gave the pledge for non-violence & peace to the dignitaries & the audience.

A guest lecture of Hon. J. R. Dabhole was organized on the occasion. Prof. N. J. Pawar, Vice Chancellor, Shivaji University chaired the program, Prof. Dabhole in his lecture said, “Violence cannot be the solution of the problems, it is only through non-violence ,a sea change can be brought in the society. Mahatma Gandhi in is life demonstrated how non violent means can lead to great successes”. He further added that the problems of global conflict, degradation of environment, corruption etc. can be dealt with only Gandhian Philosophy”.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. N. J. Pawar emphasized the need of having a smooth coordination between heart & head, so that peace & tranquility can be established in society. Dr. D. V. Muley, Registrar, Dr. A. B. Rajage, Director BUCD, Dr. B. M. Hirdekar, Controller of Examination and Dr. D. K. Gaikwad, Director, Students Welfare, graced the occasion.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Centre for Gandhian Studies organized essay competition for school & college students & poster competition for college & post-graduate department students. 101 students from colleges & post graduate departments participated in the essay competition. Similarly 46 school children participated in the essay competition & 46 students participates in the poster competition.

An exhibition of the selected posters was organized on this occasion. The students who participated in various competitions along with their parents and teachers were present for the program. Those who succeeded in the competition were felicitated by Hon. Vice Chancellor, Prof. N. J. Pawar. Following students succeeded in the competitions –
