Centre of Nehru Studies organized a workshop on ‘New Trends in International
Politics and Public Administration’. Many scholars were invited for the
workshop. Speaking on ‘New Public Management and Good Governance’ Dr. Shyam
Shirsat said that after 1990 the role of civil society is increasing in
governance. New techniques and methods in the form of New Public Management
and Good Governance have emergened. If there is no change in Public
administration in accordance with the changing situation, administration will
not function effectively and efficiently. Public administration needs to adopt
strategic planning and flexibility.
In
the afternoon session, Professor Shrikant Paranjape spoke on ‘the contemporary
security scenario in India’. He said that there is growing threat of terrorism
in India and also at international level. India needs to adopt a strategic
approach while dealing with the problem of terrorism. India also needs to take
a firm stand in International relations.
Dr.
V.G. Nandedkar spoke on ‘Public-Private Partnership’. In the last session, Dr.
Vasanti Rasam made presentation on ‘E-Governance’. Dr. Rasam said that in
order to bring flexibility and efficiency in administration, effective use of
electronic devices is necessary. E-governance will result in better and
pro-people administration. Kalpana Dixit proposed vote of thanks.
