Role of NGO’s in socio-economic upliftment of marginalized communities: Workshop organized by Centre for the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy

The Centre for the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy organized one day workshop on, ‘ Role of NGO’s in socio-economic upliftment of marginalized communities’. The workshop was organized on 20th November 2010 at the Humanities Auditorium. The major objective of organizing the workshop was to establish dialogue between various NGOs working for marginalized sections of society and also between the NGOs and the Centre. Social activists of various NGOs, academicians and students participated in the workshop. Joint Director of the Centre Ms. Nilisha Desai welcomed the guests and explained the objectives of the Workshop. In the first session many activists participated. Shri. Uday Gaikwad, an eminent social activist and Environmentalist from Kolhapur explained the importance of the work of the NGOs. Shri Dilip Pawar of Hawkers Association, Shri, Ayyaz Sargar of the Helpers of the Handicapped Institute, Shri Ashok Rokade of Jeevan Mukti Sewa Organization and Meena Seshu, activist working for the prostitutes presented the work of their organization.

In the post lunch session, Dr. Subhash Jadhav, Sadhana Zadbuke, Prin. Mangala Patil, Vyankappa Bhosale, Rupa Shah, Anuradha Bhosale presented their views regarding marginalized sections of the society ; devdasi, Child Labour, Blinds, Nomadic tribes, children of sugarcane workers etc. At the end of the workshop Dr. R. G. Dandage, Director of the Centre proposed vote of thanks.
