(A E-Bulletin of Shivaji University, Kolhapur)

Issue-Sept.-2010

FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR’S DESK :

Dear Friends,

The major goal of the Universities is to impart formal education, so that the students would have better career options. Taking into consideration this objective, Shivaji University has established Placement Cell. Each department has a Placement Cell and a Placement Officer (DPO). They prepare students resume of each department, which are forwarded to the Central Placement Cell. Central Placement Cell is an Apex body. It coordinates the activities of the departmental cells & establishes a liaison with different companies. Campus interviews are thus organized, which help students to get placements.
It is our experience that Science students get better positions, but the Arts & Social Science students lag behind. However we must keep in mind that there are immense opportunities even for them. Apart from teaching they have option to appear for the Competitive examinations. There are large numbers of vacancies not only at State level but also at Central level. Students should not
be averse of the UPSC examinations. Recently UPSC has brought changes in the examination pattern; especially paper number one has been considerably changed. Students must remain well informed about these changes. The University has two Centers, which can guide the students; Pre- Service Training Centre for SC, ST, at Humanities Building & the second is Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Competitive Examination Centre, Bhasha Bhawan. Students must make use of these Centers.
The University has announced elections to the Senate, Academic Council & Board of Studies; the Apex bodies of the University. This would be followed by Management Council & faculty. I am sure that all stake holders of the University would participate in them in free & non partisan atmosphere.
