Dr. Appasaheb Pawar Vidharthi Bhavan:
‘Earn and Learn Scheme’

The Earn and Learn Scheme of the University came into being in 1968 out of the visionary perspectives of the first Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University, Dr. Appasaheb Pawar. The scheme was implemented with the objective of bringing the students from economically backward classes into the stream of the higher education. Students from Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts are admitted in the scheme. The scheme proved helpful for the needy students to seek education and become self reliant. Similarly, the programme made the students aware of the value of labour. In the scheme, the admitted students are expected to work for three hours a day. Until today almost 2000 students have benefited from this scheme. In the initial phase of the scheme, the students used to work at Garden, Farm Canteen, Grinding Mill, etc. However, the nature of work changed with the passage of time. In the recent years students are allotted more skilled work. Recently a separate library and a computer laboratory is established in the premises of Vidyarthi Bhavan.
