The University Industry Interaction Cell, Shivaji University, Kolhapur has
hosted the 7th University-Industry Council Symposium on 5-6 August 2010. Theme
of the Symposium was “Industry-Academia Collaborations for the Development of
Western Region of India”. The special focus was on the development of western
India. The partners in the organization of this symposium were Shivaji
University, Kolhapur, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), New Delhi, and
Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. The delegates of the
symposia were Vice Chancellors of the Universities, Directors, Presidents,
Vice-Presidents and CEOs of the Industries, representatives from academic
institutes and industries.
The symposium offered a unique opportunity to the industries and universities,
and national research institutes to come together and find the areas of mutual
interest for the development of the nation. In the symposia the research and
development capabilities of the Universities, and national institutes were
showcased. On the other hand industries presented the areas where they needed R
and D support from the universities and institutes. In addition, the key
stakeholders also focused on the important issues affecting higher education.
The symposium was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of eminent Scientist,
Padmashri Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, on 5th August 2010, at Shahu Auditorium, Shivaji
University. He delivered the inaugural address of the symposium. The key note
address was delivered by Professor (Dr.) K. B. Powar, former Vice-Chancellor,
Shivaji University and former President, Association of Indian Universities. Dr.
R. Y. Deshpandey, Head, IPR and Contract, CDAC, Pune gave special address. The
keynote address was delivered by Mr. K. Kumar, Vice Chairman, CII Marathwada
Zonal Council and President and Director, Endress + Houser. The inaugural
function was presided over by Hon. Professor (Dr.) N. J. Pawar, Vice-Chancellor,
and Shivaji University Kolhapur. Professor (Dr.) D. V. Muley, Registrar, Shivaji
University, welcomed the guests and the vote of thanks were proposed by Dr. S.
S. Kolekar, Convener, 7th University-Industry Council Symposium and Co-ordinator,
University-Industry Interaction Cell, Shivaji University.
The symposium was divided in to four different sessions.
Session 1st was on “Industry-Academia Partnerships” in which important
presentations were made by Hon. Professor (Dr.) N. J. Pawar, Vice-Chancellor,
Shivaji University, Hon. Professor (Dr.) D. N. Deobagkar Vice-Chancellor, Goa
University, Dr. Porey Director, SVNIT, Surat, Professor (Dr.) H. B. Naik, Head,
Mechanical Engineering, SVNIT, Surat, Hon. Professor (Dr.) Chandrakant Kokate
Vice-Chancellor, KLE University, Karnataka. This session was moderated by
Hon’ble Prof. (Dr.) H. P. Khincha, Former Vice Chancellor, VTU and
Chairman-Division of Electrical Engineering, IISC Bangalore.
The 2nd session was on “The Pitfalls, Problems, Environmental Concerns and
Solutions for Mining Industry in Western India”.
The key speakers were Mr. V. Srinivasan, Director, Geological Survey of India,
Bhopal, Mr. B. K. Saxena, Director (Operations), Western Coalfields Ltd., Mr. A.
R. Rane, HINDALCO, Belgaum. Hon’ble Professor (Dr.) N. J. Pawar, Vice
Chancellor, Shivaji University chaired the session.
The 3rd session was entitled “ IT / ICT Industry’s Role in increasing the reach
and quality of Higher Education in India”. In this session Hon’ble Professor
(Dr.) Raju Mankar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological
University, Mr. Nihar Shah, Founder-Director, Silver Bright Institute of
Management and Research, Mr. Himanshu Goyal, Country Manager, IBM Software
India/South Asia, Dr. Sunil K. Agrawal, Director, Software Tech. Parks of India-Maharashtra,
Hon. Laxmiknat Deshmukh, District Collector, Kolhapur participated in this
session. Shri. Suresh Elangovan, CEO and Managing Director, Mindlogicx Infotech
Ltd. chaired this session.
In the morning of 6th August the 4th session was conducted on “Environment and
Energy (Renewable & Non-renewable)- The Challenges ahead”. Informative
presentations were done by eminemt personalities like. Shri.. Sanjay D. Ghodawat,
Managing Director, Sanjay Ghodawat Group of Industries, Dr. A. N. Vaidya, Deputy
Director and Head, Solid Waste Management Division NEERI, Shri. Gaurav Gandhi,
Asstt. Manager - Strategic Bus. Dev., Suzlon Energy Ltd, Professor R. A. Nikam,
Asstt. Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Engineering, Kolhapur
Institute of Technology, Prof. (Dr.) S. R. Yadav, Senior Professor – Department
of Botany, Shivaji University and Hon. Professor (Dr.) S. H. Pawar,
Vice-Chancellor, D.Y. Patil University. The session was moderated by Hon.
Professor (Dr.) B. P. Bandgar, Vice-Chancellor, Solapur University.
In the valedictory function of the 7th University-Industry Council Symposium
Principal (Dr.) A. B. Rajage, Director, B.C.U.D. was the chief guest and Hon.
Professor (Dr.) N. J. Pawar, Vice-Chancellor; Shivaji University presided over
the function. Professor (Dr.) D.V.Muley,proposed vote of thanks. The symposium
was very successful and will take University-Industry Interaction to a higher
level.
