Workshop of Post Graduate students on Gender Equality for peace & prosperity 24th February 2010

This year the Indian Government announced ‘Gender Equality for peace & prosperity’ as the theme of National Science Day celebrations. As part of these celebrations Centre of Gandhian Studies in collaboration with NSD committee, organized one day workshop on ‘Gender Equity’ for the post graduate students of Humanities Building. The workshop was organized on 24th February 2010 at the Humanities Auditorium. Around 175 students participated in the workshop, which was of participatory nature. In the inaugural session Dr. Bharati Patil, Coordinator, Centre of Gandhian Studies & Chairperson, committee for workshops & Seminars, NSD, introduced the resource persons & explained the objectives & the nature of the workshop. Dr. Megha Pansare, Department of Foreign Language, Anuradha Gaikwad, Department of Commerce & Management & Dr. Bharati Patil worked as resource persons. Dr. Randhir Shinde, Deptt of Marathi & the member of committee for workshops & Seminars, NSD, Ms. Archana kamble, & Dr. J. R. Dabhole were present on the occasion.

In the first session two skits were presented by the students of Department of Commerce & Management & Department of Political Science. These skits were based on dowry & gender discrimination in education. Discussion followed it. Students actively participated in the discussion. The resource persons asked some questions regarding ‘Sex & Gender’ & explained the difference between the two. In the second session the students of Department of Law, Department of Economics & Department of Social Work presented their skits. They dealt with the following themes: Gender discrimination in the Professions & career, sexual harassment at public places, gender discrimination in the Gram-Sabhas. Discussion followed it in which students actively participated.

In the concluding session students expressed their appreciation about the workshop. They said that they have learnt about the need of gender equality for maintaining peace & prosperity. Dr. Bharati Patil proposed vote of thanks.
