N. J. Pawar was appointed as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University on
26th February 2010. His name was declared by the Chancellor’s office and he
assumed his office on the same day. Prof. Pawar was greeted at the Tararani
Statue (Kawla Naka). He was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Rajashree Pawar,
relatives and friends. Prof. Pawar took charge from Prof. A. A. Dange, the Ag.
Vice-Chancellor of the University. Shri B. S. Patil, Ag. Registrar, Dr. R. B.
Patil, Director, BCUD, Prof. R. K. Kanbarkar, former Vice-Chancellor and other
officers of the University were present on the occasion.
N. J. Pawar’s native place is Ainwadi of Khanapur taluka in Sangli district.
He is a Science graduate of Shivaji University. He completed his post
graduation and his Ph.D from University of Pune. He worked as Professor and
Head of Geology department of the University of Pune. He was the recipient of
the young Scientist Award instituted by Indian Science Congress Association.
He also received the prestigious British Council Fellowship for two
consecutive terms in 1985 and 1987 for carrying out research in U. K. He is
involved in multi-University International research program on ‘solving
environmental conflicts: global change, human mobility and sustainable urban
development, in coastal areas’, a collaborative project between Universities
in European Union, India & South East Asia.he also has collaborative program
with Osaka city University,Japan.

on 1st March 2010, in which veteran leader Prin. P. B. Patil was the Chief
Guest. Prof. N.J. Pawar was welcomed at the auspicious hands of Prin. Patil.
Dr. Vasanti Rasam felicitated Mrs. Rajashree Pawar. Speaking on the occasion
Prin. Patil said ‘the vision of the person who leads the masses must be very
high. Prof. Pawar has come with similar vision and I am sure his vision will
take University to the greater height. Higher education is closely associated
with human resources, but we have forgotten it. Disconnecting education with
practical life is not only harmful to the individual but also to the society
N. J. Pawar in his speech said, “Shivaji University is a prestigious
University and I am aware that to become Vice-Chancellor of this University is
a stupendous job. I will need cooperation from all the stake holders in the
form of a team work and to provide transparent administration that will bear
good fruits. He emphasized that he will continue the old projects with new
vigor and welfare of the students would be the core of the administration.
Since this region is agricultural and industrial based area, more efforts
would be made to equip our students to get jobs in these sectors and to face
global challenges. Our efforts would also be to bridge the gap between the
rural and the urban students. An action plan would be prepared for the
development of the University and our efforts would be to develop University
in such a manner so that it is included in the list of top 25 Universities in
felicitation program was organized at the Lokkala kendra, which was attended
by the administrative staff, students and the faculty. Dr. B. M. Hirdekar,
