Three day workshop on Glimpses of the World History was concluded on 7th October
2009. In this workshop, Dr. Vishvas Dandekar discussed Nehru’s account of
ancient history. Dr. Avanish Patil dealt with Nehru’s views on rise of feudalism
and the rise of nation states in Europe. Prof. F. H. Bennur had discussed
Nehru’s account of Islam and Islamic civilization and imperialism and emergence
of Asian nationalism . Dr. Bhosle discussed what History taught us according to
Nehru. All the sessions were well attended.
In his valedictory address Acharya Shantaram Garud held that the Glimpses of
World History was a unique book which gave message to the colonial people of the
world. It was a book which had a trajectory of past, present and future. It was
Nehru’s view that past provided life to present and continuously sustained the
future. The purpose of writing this book was not to give a despoiled account of
the history of world but while narrating the history of the world, it showed the
path of progress to future generation. In this book, he clearly held that with
the help of socialism only, we could resolve our different problems. He
congratulated Nehru Centre for organizing such a program and asked students to
imbibe the values taught by Nehru.
Dr. A. S. Chousalkar, co-ordinator of the Centre welcomed the guests and Mr.
Pandurang Bhoye proposed vote of thanks.
