“Kosambi provided new perspective in the study of Indian History”

“Prof. D. D. Kosami was a great Marxist historian who gave new perspective to
the study of ancient Indian History. He was son of Prof. Dharmanand Kosambi, who
dedicated his life in the study of Buddhism. Shivaji University has taken a
right step by publishing a book on Prof. Kosambi. This type of centenary tribute
is always desirable because it gives an opportunity to scholars to review the
work of the great historian. Kosambi wanted to study quit India movement of 1942
along with peasant rebellion in Satara district” said veteran historian and
former chairman of Indian history congress, Prof. J. V. Naik of Mumbai while
releasing a book on D. D. Kosambi. This was a collection of essays that were
presented in a work shop organised by centre of Nehru studies last year. Prof.
A. A. Bhosle professor of History in Department of History of the University
presided over the function. The function was heldon 29 Sept. 2009.
In his presidential address, Prof. Bhosle paid handsome tribute to Prof. Kosambi
and congratulated the Centre of Nehru studies for undertaking timely publication
of the book.
Dr. A. S. Chousallkar, Co-ordinator of the Centre and Editor of the book
welcomed the guests and Dr.Avanish Patial of Deptt. of History proposed hearty
vote of thanks.
