As a part of the centenary of the Hind Swaraj; one of the classics of Mahatma
Gandhi , the Centre of Gandhian Studies, Shivaji University organized one day
workshop on ‘Relevance of Hind Swaraj’ at Devchand College, Nipani, on 26th
September 2009. The workshop was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Shri
Kiran Shah & Mrs. Pratibha Shah, the chairperson & the vice chairperson
respectively of Devchand College. The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the
lamp & garlanding Mahatma Gandhi’s photo. Prof. Dr. Asohk Chousalkar, Head,
Department of Political Science, Dr. Bharati Patil, Coordinator of the Centre of
Gandhian Studies, Dr. A. G. Joshi, Principal, Devchand College, Shri Dattaji
Shinde, veteran Freedom fighter, Prof. T. G. Pawar, Prof R. G. Waradkar were
present on the occasion. Prof. T. G. Pawar , welcomed the guests & the
participants. Dr. A. G. Joshi, explained the activities carried out by the
College & express his willingness to organize such programs more frequently. Dr.
Bharati Patil elucidated the objectives behind organizing the Workshop. Prof. A.
S. Chousalkar delivered the keynote address of the workshop. He introduced Hind
Swaraj to the participants & explained its importance.
In the first session of the workshop Prof. R. G. Waradkar delivered speech on
Political Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi in Hind Swaraj. The second session was
conducted by Dr. Bharati Patil. She spoke on ‘Mahatma Gandhi & Nationalism. In
the third session, Shri. Dattaji Shinde had a dialogue with participants about
relevance of Gandhian ideology. The fourth session was the discussion session,
in which students had a dialogue with the experts.
Around 200 students & the faculty of the Devchand College participated in the
workshop.
