Prof . J. V. Naik , former Head of Department of History, Mumbai University and
ex-President of Indian History Congress delivered two lectures in the Department
of History, under the guest lecture series. Prof. Naik discussed the concept of
‘Renaissance’ and also threw light on various factors which influenced the
social-reform movement in Maharastra. He discussed the contributors of social
reform organization such as Manav Dharma Sabha, Paramhansa Sabha and Prarthna
Samaj. He especially highlighted the radical turn given by Mahatma Phule and his
Satyashodhak Samaj to the social reform movement in Maharashtra. Dr. Avanish
Patil proposed vote of thanks.
