“Pandit Nehru
was deeply interested in international politics before independence as he
wanted to bring India at the central stage of world politics, because he
believed that liberation of India was beginning of liberation of other Asian
Countries. His policy of non-alignment was culmination of his ideas on
international politics” said Dr. Shrikant Paranjape, Professor and Head
Department of Defence and strategic studies of University of Pune while
delivering a series of three lectures on foreign Policy of Pandit Nehru at
Centre of Nehru Studies of the University on Second and third January 2009.
Dr. A.S. Chousalkar, Head of Deptt. of Political Science presided.
In his
subsequent two lectures Dr. Paranjape discussed historical development of
Nehru’s foreign policy and the true meaning of non-alignment. He held the view
that Nehru was well aware of the Chinese threat. He judiciously used force to
liberate Goa from the Portuguese occupation.
Dr. Chousalkar
introduced and welcomed the guests and Mr. Pandurang Bhoye proposed vote of
thanks.
