(A E-Bulletin of Shivaji University, Kolhapur)

Issue-Apr.-2008

FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR’S DESK :

Dear Friends,

This year we are planning to provide maximum opportunities and facilities to the students who wish to take admission for various courses in our University. This aim will be achieved by way of conducting our Entrance Tests at various places in India. The centres will be at Delhi, Chennai, Baroda, Ahemedabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Kolhapur etc. This will facilitate the students to appear for Entrance Tests easily. We have planned to held these Tests on 27th & 28th May 2008, so that there will not be a long gap between their exams and Entrance Test. They need not spend extra time and efforts on preparing for these tests.

This year the Admission Procedure at Shivaji University will be unique and special in the sense that there will be “Counselling for the students”. This Counselling will be free and absolutely beneficial and useful for them, since it will help them to seek the information about various Scholarships, Free-ships, other facilities in the University. It will also help them to find out better courses – either professional or career-oriented – on the Campus. Such aspiring students can simultaneously seek the admission for BPO training programme, MPSC/UPSC Coaching classes. In the Departments also the newly admitted students will get Counselling from a faculty member. The idea is to provide ‘One Window’ Information Centre, so that students need not spend their time and energy on finding certain things about the University, courses, fees etc. It is decided that this time we would like to start teaching right from the first day of Academic Session.

Moreover, this year we are determined to start MBA course through Distance (Correspondence) mode. Again this will give an opportunity to those office-bearers and housewives who wish to improve their qualifications and calibre by taking admission for MBA course through Distance mode.

We have another special facility for the students; and that is “Work on Demand”. Under this scheme, students who wish to earn experience and  money, can apply to the Cell. These students get the opportunities to earn not only money but the precious experience as well, which can facilitate them to get the job easily. During Summer vacation also the students for the Department of Bio-technology, for example, have to attend Summer Training Camp which enrich their knowledge and experience.

Last but not the least, to heighten the Standard and Quality of education, this year we are starting Credit System in our University. There will be continuous assessment and evaluation in the Department.
