With the advent of rapid needs for online e-resources, Barr. Balasaheb
Khardekar Library of the
Shivaji
University
has taken steps towards computerization (automation) of its whole reading
collection. The automation project in this direction has been already launched
in January 2008, and will be completing in the month of June 2008, now onwards
the online information regarding library collection, status, new arrivals,
membership and other information is made available to all digitally through
WebOPAC. Necessary infrastructure with respect to the hardware, software and
manpower resources is made. The automation work includes stages such as
preparation of data worksheet, data entry work and bar code generation of
library collection. Almost in all stages 3-4 times checking is done with the
help of library staff.
In line with this the work of
digitalization of rare collection, manuscript from the archival section of the
library is taken through newly purchased Publication Scanner for this purpose.
In addition to this free online
access to more than 3000+ e-journals and databases is also available to the
University under the
UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium
All the above mentioned services are at the fingertips of students and staff
and get benefited in this digital world.
