“Establishment of equality
between man and woman is the goal of feminist movement and Mahatma Phuley,
Savitribai and Tarabai Shinde laid the foundation of the feminist movement in
the state” said Mrs. Bharati Patil, Senior Lecturer in the Dept. of Political
Science of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Mr. B. B. Patil, Chairman of
Southern Region of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha was in chair. She was speaking on
the occasion of presentation of Principal Sumatibai Patil award of
Siddhashrama Trusts to Dr. Vanita C. Karande of Yashvantrao Chavan Institute
of Science, Satara on 03.01.2007.
Speaking on the revolutionary
and liberating content of Indian feminist movement, Mrs. Patil argued that the
real purpose of the feminist movement was to establish a society which was
based on equality and friendship. Unfortunately, there were growing cases of
atrocities against women and increasingly women were subjected to violence and
injustice. She held that there was need of empowerment of women so that they
could fight justice bravely. Mr. B. B. Patil in his Presidential address paid
the glowing tribute to Savitraibai Phuley. Dr. K. H. Shinde welcomed and
introduced the guests. Principal Bhoite gave information abut the prize and
Principal E. H. Gavand proposed hearty vote of thanks.
