The D.S.W. Unit of
the Shivaji
University
is dealing with the important aspects of the
students studying in the University i.e.
welfare. Mr. D. Shrikant of Sociology Dept. is
the Director of DSW. The DSW is directly
concerned with forming the Shivaji University
Students Council, which is made up of 15 Students,
President, Hon'ble V.C.and Chairman Director DSW.
The DSW also forms the P.G. Dept. Students, with
one student from each dept. selected on basis of
merit. Hon'ble V.C., Director DSW, Director NSS
and Director Sports & Physical education being the
members of Students Council. Besides these, the
DSW organizes various other programs, competitions
and selection trials in the form of:

YOUTH FESTIVAL.

QUIZ
COMPETITIONS.

ESSAY
COMPETITIONS.

INTER UNIVERSITY
ELOCUTION AND DEBATE COMPETITIONS.

PERSONALITY
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS.

PROGRAMME FOR CULTURAL CO-ORDINATORS.

The DSW deals with all queries and complains from
students regarding education. In short, it is
completely focused on all activities regarding
student's welfare. In addition to this the
Director of DSW also functions as International
Students Adviser. He advises International
Students regarding Admissions, queries and other
facilities.

NATIONAL
SOCIAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS): |

The
NSS is a scheme executed by Central Govt. in all
Indian Universities & also in Maharashtra. The
University NSS Cell with the help of programme Co-ordinator
Mr. S.D. Ingale and 254 Programme officers from
175 affiliated colleges and the P.G. Students
implements the NSS Scheme with the motto of
'Personality Development through Social Service.
The NSS functions in two parts
-
Regular
activities-(work) : No. Of students 22250
-
Special Camps for
10 days : No. Of students 1125
The Students
will have to work for a minimum period of 120
hours and will receive a certificate on completion
of NSS. Under the NSS Scheme the students
undertake following programs.
-
Problems related to
health check up camps, AIDS awareness, Pulse
Polio vaccination, Leprosy testing, Earth-Quake
relief funds, Anti Pollution campaigns Etc.

Construction of
Roads, Wells, Toilets, Sockpits etc.
-
Village cleanness
programme, Literacy programme, Play
ground development programme, Anti Plastic
campaign, Anti Superstitions Campaign.
It also aims at
developing confidence and leadership qualities
among students. In short, it provides a platform
for over all mind, body and soul development which
is beneficial to students and society.

SANKALP |
| |
Since
the last two years the University has come up with
an unique activity Sankalp. It is a two days PG
Students Development Camp to encourage
Co-curricular activities amongst the students.
More than 2000 students from all the departments
participate in this event which comprises Cultural
presentations, Quiz, Elocution, Poster
Competitions and Lectures on Personality
Development.
