Department of Political Science was established on 7th October 1970.  Faculty Strength of the Department is as follows:
Sanctioned Posts: 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professsors
Actual (including CAS & MPS) : 3 Professors

Discipline of Political Science carries great importance in today’s world. It encompasses every field in its scope. State has emerged with multiple responsibilities in present times of Globalization, and durability of any State depends on the performance of its duties. The State works in environment which can be further divided into internal and external environment. Thus study of Political Science include study of state and elements of environment also which provides for introduction of interdisciplinary approach in Political Science. Taking in to consideration essence of study Department of Political Science has always tried to introduce courses which will provide holistic study of the discipline.
Department has always tried to focus on its thrust areas in academics and in research. The Thrust areas are Political Theory, Political Thought, especially Gandhi & Nehru, Political process & Socio - Political movements in India, Public Policy, Applied Politics 
Department has also been the host for conferences of Maharashtra Political Science and Public Administration Conference, Maharashtra Public Administration Conference and Shivaji University Political Science Conference. 
Department always organizes student centric programmes to enhance research and expertise in the discipline. It has organized activities like review of work of Local Self Government like Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, Gram Panchayat, Gram Sabha, Mahanagar Palika and administrative offices as well. Department always organizes study tours of students to State Legislative Assembly, Parliament and Public Offices. During these visits students observe and study work going on there and visit offices like Election commission, Niti Ayog, U. G. C., Nehru and Gandhi Memorial, Human Rights Commission etc. Department also organizes Mock United Nations in which students of different universities participate as delegates of different member countries of the United Nations.
In recent times Department has become centre of studies like Election Analysis, Public Administration, International Politics and Indian Political Thought.     
Department also undertakes some innovative and community interactive extension programmes e. g. Visit to Old Age Home, Orphanage, Jail and also visit to ideal villages like Hivare Bajar, Ralegaon Siddhi etc.
