Introduction : |
Introduction: The
Department of Microbiology established in 2005.
The various courses offered in the department are
M. Sc., M. Phil., and Ph.D. in microbiology. This
subject has been started to make microbiology as
an interdisciplinary subject in the sense that a
microbiologist must be one who also has knowledge
of biochemistry, biostatistics and bioinformatics,
so that when the students think of making a career
in their chosen field, they must have the basics
of these prime subjects to become a competent
microbiologist. That is why this course has been
labeled as a M. Sc. course in Microbiology but
with Horizontal Mobility. During the first year
the students are given an exhaustive training and
basic knowledge of biochemistry, biostatistics and
bioinformatics with computer orientation.

Areas : |
Research Area:
Department is involved in conducting high quality
research in the thrust areas such as
bioinformatics (microbial informatics), applied
research in microbial physiology, environmental
microbiology and food technology.

Academic Programmes
Offered : |
Academic programs:
Department has academic flexibility introduced by
University from June 2007 to modify and revise the
syllabus. The M. Sc. syllabus has been fine tuned
in this respect and made more advanced than the
earlier one. This syllabus has been introduced
from June 2008 with Credit System along with
Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE).

Two of
our faculties have post-doctoral research experience of reputed research
institutes; one is trained at National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda,
USA and the other trained at Okayama University, Japan, IIT Delhi and NMIMT,
USA. Their research specializations are bioinformatics (microbial
informatics) and microbial physiology respectively. Along with this, 6 staff
members from the Department of Biochemistry are also available as visiting
faculty. We are also using molecular modeling techniques and professional
software such as SYBYL, SPARTAN, AMBER, GROMACS to understand biological
problems at molecular level.
