  Introduction:

In Maharashtra, out of 7 Universities, four Universities are running the Department of Journalism and Communication.  Among them, Department of Journalism and Communication Science from Shivaji University is one of the well known department.  The Department was established in 1968 and initially conducted certificate course.  The department has started one year B.J.C. course in 1988 and one year course in 1994.  The intake capacity of the students for B.J.C. and M.J.C. is 30 and 15 respectively.
              The department has three faculty members, one Reader and two full time lecturers.  The department conducts these courses with the help of contributory teachers and media persons.  Since the B.J.C. and M.J.C. course is practical oriented, study tour, media internship lab journal, field visits are compulsory for the B.J.C. and M.J.C. students.  The M.J.C. students are requires to submit a dissertation as the part of the M.J.C. course.
          The department has produced one Ph.D. and now register 6 students for Ph.D. in Journalism. The department is well equipped with teaching aids such as V.C.R., T.V., V.C.P., Overhead projector, slide projector, Tape-recorder, Photo cameras, Video camera and two computers (One PC and One DTP).  The departments future planning is to develop video production unit, computer lab, record room and mini theatre for Film Journalism subject.
