Introduction : |
The post graduate
department of Geography started functioning in the
historic City of Kolhapur from August 22, 1968. At
the initial stage the department was established
at the behest of the founder Vice – Chancellor Dr.
Appasaheb Pawar with one Reader, two lecturers and
two demonstrators. Being a part of science faculty
the department trains students for the Master
Degree both in the Arts and the Science streams.
Out of 13 teaching posts there are at present one
Professor and Six lecturers including one
temporary in the department.
Goals & Objectives of the Department:

To train the
persons in the discipline for dissemination of
knowledge to the society and to be self reliant.

To promote the
study and research activities in different
branches of geography
-
To bring the
geographical awareness among the masses for
application of this knowledge to sort out their
day to day problems.
-
To educate the
members of society for proper use, reuse
conservation and preservation of natural and
human resources with sustainable approach
-
To develop the
strong coordination among the different branches
of the discipline to have better interaction
with other disciplines.

To arrange the
seminars, workshops, training, programmes, etc.
for college teachers and members of society from
different sectors of economy.

M. A. / M. Sc.:
Syllabus of M.A. / M. Sc. has been framed as per
the UGC recommendations and NET & SET
examination.

Diploma in Tourism
and Travel: Syllabus of Diploma in Tourism and
Travel has been prepared by considering the
syllabus of tourism and travel Institutes in
different parts of our country and other
countries, which is market oriented.

Course
Structure :(Papers) |
Semester system four
theory paper and two practical papers for each
semester. Academic flexibility has already been
implemented and credit system start from June
2008.
Curriculum revision: after every three years we
revise our syllabus and present one is revised in
2008 – 09. Subject related to environment, tourism
and new techniques like Remote Sensing and GIS is
included in the syllabus. We revise our syllabus
on the basis of market requirements. One year
Diploma in Geoinformatics has been started with
intake capacity of 30 seats since June 2008.

department for the backward students

surprise tests of students and discussion with
them in the class.

Remedial Coaching
classes, English improvement classes and work on
demand are some of the schemes for M.A./ M.Sc.
Students to solve their academic problems.
Library has the INFLIBNET services with latest
software of SOUL with OPAC facility.Geography
