Introduction : |
The department of Education was established on 7th
of November 1979 and the building in which it is
housed is named after the renowned educationist
Padmabhushan Dr J P Naik. The Department has one
Professor and seven lecturers.
The department has always updated itself and changed
the thrust areas of teaching and research over the
years in keeping with the UGC, NCTE guidelines at
the M Ed, M Phil, and Ph D levels. It has started
need based courses of P G Diplomas.
The specializations offered in the Department are:
Information and Communication Technology Education,
Special Education, Environmental Education, Teacher
Education, Management Education with revision of
syllabus of the M Ed course thrice in the five
years, with the feedback obtained from students and
employers. The modalities of practical components
are modified every year for improving its
objectivity, transparency, flexibility and
practicability after a meeting of Principals of
Local colleges where our students undertake the
Internship programme and are placed later on.
The transaction of curriculum in this Department at
M Ed and M Phil involves more of participatory
learning techniques such as think pair share
learning, poster presentation, role play, panel and
group discussion, simulation and games, quadro
teaching as well as individualized learning such as
CAL, seminar etc besides lectures which is minimized
to a large extent to enable students to became self
sufficient individuals who can search for knowledge
and generate knowledge. These efforts have paid
handsomely by way of good SET and NET results of the
Department which has grown tremendously in the last
five years from in 2003-04 to in 2007-08. More than
50% of the Education SET result of Maharashtra at a
time is from this Department. Moreover the students
of M Ed / M Phil/ Ph D are passing in other
competitive exams of NET, MPSC etc and have occupied
high administrative as well as academic positions as
Dy Director of Higher Education, Educational
Officers in Govt of Maharashtra, Heads of
Departments, Principals of Colleges, etc.
The placement efforts of the placement officer and
staff has resulted in 100% placement with employers
of all over Maharashtra vying to employ our
Department students during the campus interviews
conducted in the Department.
In order to develop students as wholesome
individuals the department provides personality
development and English communications skills
programmes and also provide opportunity for
interacting with the Educational experts, during
conferences, and guest lectures and conduct of
research in the community, during their community
related project works such as literacy survey of
women in suburban areas and literacy level of Z P
school children and conduct of remedial teaching for
slow/ weak learners, disseminate environmental
awareness and scientific attitude among school
children and in rural areas.
The faculty and students are encouraged to attend
refresher courses, training programmes, conferences
and co-curricular and extension activities, etc. and
also actively participate in the conduct of the same
in the Department. All the teachers are IT enabled
by way of Intel and Microsoft training having signed
MoU’s with the two organizations.
The senior teachers have served as peer team
inspection committee members and contributed for
ensuring quality of teacher education programmes in
the country. They are widely sought as resource
persons by other universities in India especially on
their academic bodies of BOS, BUT&R, BOE, Faculty
etc. and they also act as master trainers for ICT in
Colleges of Education.
Out of the two full time Research Scholars, one was
a UGC fellow and the other departmental research
fellow who worked for a major research project under
a Professor in the department and produced
self-instructional computer software package for
school science. Other Educational software are also
produced by teachers and .M Ed / M Phil / Ph D
students.
The department has International collaborations with
teachers as Master Trainers for G L O B E

and Microsoft and train school science teachers of
different states in India, train B Ed / M Ed
